One of the key components of DE is learning to practice ‘ordinary attempts’ – or OAs. This consists primarily of three different activities: 1. Noticing. Training ourselves to see through the eyes of Christ. Where might God already be working in the lives of people around us? What might be some of their concerns, their needs? 2. Praying behind their backs. This is a great continuation of noticing. Do we believe that God both hears and answers prayer? If we notice a situation in someone’s life that could use prayer but circumstances don’t allow us to pray with or over them – pray behind their back. 3. Listening. Ask someone how they’re doing – and then actually listen. Find out what their concerns are. Listen to their stories. Ask more questions. Let them know that they count. If you would like to know more about DE, or read some actual examples of OAs from people all over the country, click on the DE link posted above. |
